FRIENDS OF COCO - Sheridan Fiamengo

MfJEMU-g.jpeg

A few weeks ago I visited the house of our friend and designer Sheridan Fiamengo. She lives in a 1970s Italian style tiled share house in North Fitzroy. We sat and drank tea and she read my tarot cards for the first time and did my birthday chart. Then we got down to wardrobe business and she took me to her room to talk me through it.

When and how did you discover your love of secondhand?

When I was in high school going through many 'looks'.

I really love shopping... and second-hand stores have always given me the liberty to 'have fun with it' on a budget.

What has been you best find?
Probably my Chanel quilted backpack. Not really my style, but I feel like I need to keep her.

A tie between Alexander McQueen/Rei Kawakubo and Maison Martin Margiela. Every time I explore their work, I always find something that challenges and inspires me over and over again

At the moment I am still slowly developing my next collection; I've in the midst of changing my practice a little... I'll be in the US for the next month so hopefully, after then, I will have something to realise ;)

FRIENDS OF COCO ~ Adriana Giuffrida

Here we are with another instalment of  ‘Friends of Coco’!

This month I was lucky enough to visit the  wardrobe of Adriana Giuffrida, designer of cult Melbourne brand POMS and all round style guru. She has one of the best designer second hand wardrobes we can think of and has been a customer and supplier of COCO since we opened last year!

Hello Adriana and thank you for letting me into your very impressive wardrobe- wow wee! When and how did you discover your love of secondhand?

I always loved shopping second hand, since I was a teen. Back then it was Camberwell Market every Sunday, finding American sportswear or tie dyed slips to wear over jeans. Now it’s local OP shops, vintage bazaars and eBay, searching for vintage designer gems.

What has been you best find?

My collection of Spring 1993 Prada items are my most coveted. These are pieces I have been searching for, and gradually found over the years.

And piece you regret to this day not buying?

A neoprene Miu Miu utility bum bag from the spring 99 collection. I found on holiday it in NYC, but alas left it behind.

Favorite designers?

Miuccia Prada is top of the list, as well as Martin Margiela, 90’s Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière, I also love Junya Watanabe & Rei Kawakubo. I love all the classic visionaries.

Who is your style icon or someone you would swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?

I think Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy or Camille Bidault Waddington.

FRIENDS OF COCO ~ Emma Cutri

Welcome to ‘Friends of COCO’ a new monthly post on the blog! Each month we visit the closet of a  friend of the shop and unearth the treasures within….

This month we were welcomed into the bursting closet of one half of much loved Melbourne label Sister Studios and part time primary school teacher, Emma Cutri.

Lets start with the biggest regret, what’s the second hand piece you didn’t buy but still think of to this day?

When I was in LA last year we went to the most amazing AMAZING vintage designer store. I will forever regret not buying this CRAZY stunning 1970s Gucci gold lurex 2 piece. It had these wild gold high waisted flares and a V neck top to match.

How did you discover your love for second hand?

I think I first discovered my love for vintage pretty young. My mum had this huge old sealed up barrel in one of the sheds on our family farm filled with her and my Dads old 60s and 70s clothes. It quickly became my favourite place to find cool outfits.

She had everything from knee-high white lace up boots to cute micro mini striped dresses and lots of velvet. Most of the stuff I found in these barrels is still on high rotation in my wardrobe today.

Best vintage finds?

Some of my favourites would be my knee-high snakeskin 60s mod boots I got from the vintage store that was in my hometown for a minute. I also found this gold mini mod dress about 10 years ago from the ‘Posh Op Shop’ near my friend Miki’s house. I found my oversized denim jacket that has gingham daisies stitched all over it at a huge thrift warehouse in Bushwick about 4 years ago. One more… These limited edition love and desire Beverley Feldmen clear heels with cranberries inside the heel and on the toe.

Style icons?

I feel like I have a style icon for every day of the week. Some of my favs are Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, Riri, Cher and all my cute friends.

Secret spot to shop second hand in Melbourne?

Not very secret but I always find something at Lost and Found market in Brunswick.

Instagrams should we follow?

Thanks Emma, now give us those boots!
