Welcome to ‘Friends of COCO’ a new monthly post on the blog! Each month we visit the closet of a friend of the shop and unearth the treasures within….
This month we were welcomed into the bursting closet of one half of much loved Melbourne label Sister Studios and part time primary school teacher, Emma Cutri.
Lets start with the biggest regret, what’s the second hand piece you didn’t buy but still think of to this day?
When I was in LA last year we went to the most amazing AMAZING vintage designer store. I will forever regret not buying this CRAZY stunning 1970s Gucci gold lurex 2 piece. It had these wild gold high waisted flares and a V neck top to match.
How did you discover your love for second hand?
I think I first discovered my love for vintage pretty young. My mum had this huge old sealed up barrel in one of the sheds on our family farm filled with her and my Dads old 60s and 70s clothes. It quickly became my favourite place to find cool outfits.
She had everything from knee-high white lace up boots to cute micro mini striped dresses and lots of velvet. Most of the stuff I found in these barrels is still on high rotation in my wardrobe today.
Best vintage finds?
Some of my favourites would be my knee-high snakeskin 60s mod boots I got from the vintage store that was in my hometown for a minute. I also found this gold mini mod dress about 10 years ago from the ‘Posh Op Shop’ near my friend Miki’s house. I found my oversized denim jacket that has gingham daisies stitched all over it at a huge thrift warehouse in Bushwick about 4 years ago. One more… These limited edition love and desire Beverley Feldmen clear heels with cranberries inside the heel and on the toe.
I feel like I have a style icon for every day of the week. Some of my favs are Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, Riri, Cher and all my cute friends.
Secret spot to shop second hand in Melbourne?
Not very secret but I always find something at Lost and Found market in Brunswick.
